Democracy, Multiculturalism Vs
Monoculture, and isolating, migrants.
Engr. Kanthar Balanathan
As a true Australian citizen who
love Australia as a country that practices ideal democracy/near ideal democracy
under the Australian Labour Party, the author would like to
highlight some important concepts in understanding the concept of democracy to
those who may lack in digesting the democratic concepts.
Meaning of Democracy
Democracy is defined as a set of
principles and practices that protect human freedom. It is defined as the
codification and management of freedom. It is also said as to rest upon basic,
entrenched principles, not uniform practices. It is also known that
Democratic societies are committed to the values of tolerance, cooperation, and
compromise.
Principles of
Democracy is, Majority Rule, while protecting Minority Rights.
For democracy to be success in a country
the system should operate with three main effective arms. (i) The Executive,
(ii) Legislature or the Parliament (iii) Judiciary.
Understanding the Concept of
Democracy
In Greek cities, political power was inherited by several
large aristocratic families, which controlled large areas in and around Athens.
Quote: “Appointment to the supreme offices of
state, went by birth and wealth; and they were held at first for life, and
afterwards for a term of ten years”. (Ref: Athenian Constitution 3.1 – The American
School of Classical Studies at Athens-Athenian
Agora Excavations)
Democracy can be traced back to classical Athens in the 6th century BC.
What is
interesting is that, even in this 21st century,
appointment to the offices of state, in the third
world is made by birth and wealth. Politicians are chosen by birth and wealth.
These are executed in the third world under the global glorified lingo, “Democracy”. and the third world
countries are typical examples for birth and wealth aristocratic appointment to
higher offices of the state.
The term “Democracy”
has become ineffectual to the common mass, and the people are taken for a
gallop under this lionised term, “Democracy”.
The literacy rate of the common mass in
the third world may not be high. Even if the rate is high, the concentration
and focus of the knowledge, may not be ample in political, social and legal
affairs. This is due to people selecting their profession or trade to generate
high income.
What is required to understand the Concept of Democracy and may be
multiculturalism?
Quote: “Perception is an active mental act. It is a dynamic, a
dialectical conflict between the self-perspective transformation and external
vectors of power bearing upon us. That which we perceive is a balance between
these antagonists”. (Ref: Understanding Conflict and War: vol. 1: the
dynamic psychological field, chapter 11, by R.J. Rummel)
Humans perceive different effects about the same state, as
perceptions vary from person to person. People assign different meaning to what
they perceive. That is the reason conflicts arise. (Kanthar Balanathan)
Although all human males are born with ≈1.5kg of brain, not
all perceive the same thing in the same perspective, the same way.
Belief is somewhat on
concepts, events, hypotheses, and models, those a person assumes and convinces,
is right. Belief outlines a
thought/assumption or dogma that people judge to be true.
Knowledge is defined as information,
proofs, aptitudes and proficiencies, acquired through involvement and practise,
i.e. appreciation of the theoretical and practical training, and understanding
of a subject or job.
In a person’s domain intelligence
can be explained as understanding of a topic, subject or thing with pure
reasoning. Every human is born with intelligence. Every living thing, organism
has its intelligence in its own way. The difference between humans and animals
is that human have the sixth sense. However, can we categorically state that
chimps can do what humans can do? May be chimps can do what humans can do in
its own way. If we carefully think, we can arrive at the similarity.
Competency is defined as the capability
that person(s) can apply using the appreciation of the theoretical and
practical knowledge acquired, to successfully perform and complete a
work/function, in defined work environment.
Modern “Art of Training” in
Colleges, Universities, and workplaces is competency-based training, where
emphasis is placed for people to use this training in their workplace. “Humans have to be competent in whatever they
perform”. Well, the king of the forest “Lion”
is highly skilled and competent to hunt down its prey, which could be queried
as, “Where did they get their training to
be competent”?
Citizens could become more
competent in listening skills, reading skills, conflict resolution, and general
political affairs to progress to understand principles applied in
politics.
Reality is the true state of things, and
reality can be viewed through perception which acts as the lens. Citizens could
believe that there is something known as reality, and that they could see
reality by attempting to see through their ability of “perception”.
Understanding democracy by the people in
the third world cannot be interpreted as obvious and automatic. Most third
world people’s belief is that a 50.1% against 49.9% is democracy.
Business Dictionary definition for Belief: Quote; - “Assumptions and
convictions that are held to be true, by an individual or a group, regarding
concepts, events, people, and things”.
The understanding
of 50.1% to 49.9% “Belief”
contradicts reality, since “Democracy”
embraces several dimensional elements of human life in a free country.
The six inborn abilities of the
human mind outlined above is a prerequisite in their own “Mind”, for all citizens should have, to elect a good democratic
governance.
In the context of illiteracy
prevalent in a country, media is a coverage, where political analysts, and
political investigative journalists can write to educate the masses.
Politicians in the should be competent
in their area of politics, political science, and political affairs, to serve
the people who elected them. Democracy is in fracas because of the limited or
decreased functioning of the six inborn abilities of the mind, which may not be
effective to do what it is supposed to do.
Behavioural
manner inflicts upon leadership quality. A member of parliament can be
identified as the leader of his/her electorate, and his/her leadership quality
can only be judged by his behavioural manner, interaction with the people, the
ministers, and his/her output to the electorate and the people.
The morality of a person,
politician, and citizen plays the foremost, imperative role in understanding
and practising factual democracy. An immoral person cannot be a good person to
enter politics, as his actions would be against moral principles. In this
context reference from Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy.
[Ref: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/morality-definition/#DesDefMor)
Quote: The term “morality” can be used
either,
•
Descriptively to refer to some codes of
conduct put forward by a society or,
a.
some other group, such as a religion, or
b.
accepted by an individual for her own behaviour or
•
Normatively to refer to a code of conduct that, given
specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons. Descriptive
definitions of morality:
•
Law or a legal system is distinguished from morality or a
moral system by having explicit written rules, penalties, and officials who
interpret the laws and apply the penalties.
•
When “morality” is used in its universal normative sense,
it need not have either of the two formal features that are essential to
moralities referred to by the original descriptive sense: that it be a code of
conduct that is put forward by a society and that it be accepted as a guide to
behaviour by the members of that society.]
A person to be moral, he/she should know the right and
wrong, values and principles, justice, good and bad thoughts and acts, values,
and principles of human rights, and in particular, good governance for a
politician.
In this context, another reference from Kurt Gray, Liane Young, Adam Waytz, as
follows:
Definition
of Mind; Quote: Mind perception requires
imputing mental capacities to other entities, while moral judgment entails
labelling entities as good or bad or actions as right or wrong. We suggest that
mind perception is the essence of moral judgment. (Ref: Mind Perception is the Essence of Morality, by
Kurt Gray1, Liane Young2, Adam Waytz3- 1University of Maryland, 2Boston
College, 3Northwestern University)
Key question for politicians in the third and
Developed world.
Are the politicians inherited with good
ethics and moral? The main shortfall in the world is most of the politicians
are uneducated and lack knowledge in the six senses of the mind and
particularly, can be questioned whether they are inherited with good ethics and
moral.
“We are discussing no small matter, but how
we ought to live”, Socrates said.
Historically, did kings who ruled
countries were moral and have good ethics? The answer could be, may not all of
them. Kings had no reason to invade other countries which was judged to be
totally different: culturally, linguistically, and religiously. Mass murders
and plundering occurred in the previous era, and most of kingdoms had no moral
principles, but greed for power and wealth.
Could the answer be: Power, Greed, Avidity,
Wealth, Sex Drive, Eroticism, and Lust?
OR Paranoid Mind?
Could we now state that a politician who
wants to lead the country to govern should be of good moral character? Could we
also now state that any government should embed in its constitution, that
political parties should define and outline good ethics and Code of Conduct for
its political party members and members of parliament?
Dynasty Culture and impact on
Democracy
Countries have a paranoia that the
aristocratic family dynasty, or the so-called royal descendant’s dynasty should
rule the country. It is true that the royal descendants and aristocratic family
heritage accrued wealth over the anarchy period. With collaterals in practice
for free and fair elections, it is only two major factors that influence the
citizens on the voting platform. (i) Collaterals, (ii) the inborn character of
normal people to look up to aristocratic and or the dynasty and assume that
they could do better than normal citizens.
Country Flags
In Australia, some people are
against having three flags. SriLanka has one flag that connote
the three races, Majority Sinhalese, Tamils and the Muslims. The country does
not discriminate in representing its three races in the flag. Australia could
implement the same form of representation for the majority Europeans,
Native Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders.
The Language of Australia
shall be English only as English is a Universal Language.
With regrets I note that One
Nation is always flooded with hate speeches against ASIANS and ISLAMISTS.
It is to note that the, Sumerians were the creators of the
world's first advanced civilization (https://www.google.com/search?q=sumerians&rlz=1C1YVBP_enAU1201AU1204&oq=sumerians&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYjwIyBwgAEAAYjwIyDwgBEC4YQxixAxiABBiKBTIMCAIQABhDGIAEGIoFMgcIAxAAGIAEMgcIBBAAGIAEMgcIBRAuGIAEMgcIBhAAGIAEMgcIBxAAGIAEMgcICBAAGIAEMgcICRAAGIAE0gEJMjY3OWowajE1qAIMsAIB8QW186sac5lCUg&sourceid=chrome&source=chrome.rb&ie=UTF-8),

Why do we hate? What are the
disadvantages of the act “hate”?
Quote: The core
disadvantage and risk of hate—whether directed at individuals, groups, or
institutions—is that it always harms the hater, the target, and the wider
society. The concise takeaway is this: hate is corrosive. It damages judgment,
relationships, stability, and even physical health.
Well, HATE is corrosive. Well Winston
Raymond Peters of NZ was a person with “hate” character calling for “NZ First”
in the nineties. Today he is a Foreign Minister. One of the racial mode acts of
the Marois in NZ is to perform “HAKA” in the parliament which depicts their ethnic
racial hatred mode.
The core disadvantage and risk of
hate—whether directed at individuals, groups, or institutions—is that it
always harms the hater, the target, and the wider society. The concise
takeaway is this: hate is corrosive. It damages judgment, relationships,
stability, and even physical health.
Key disadvantages of hate:
·
Distorted thinking and poor decision‑making,
Loss of empathy, Reduced intelligence in action, Emotional exhaustion,
·
Damaged relationships,
·
Mental health decline, Physical health
consequences, Escalation into harmful behaviour, Polarization
and breakdown of social cohesion, Discrimination
and injustice, Violence and conflict
In the US, the Europeans massacred
millions of native Americans which no one can deny. The African Americans (AA)
were oppressed and discriminated. Later the country advocated the AA to train
themselves in sports, music, acting, and several events. Today the AAs is
leading in sports, music and even in politics.
Australia could promote the
natives to train themselves in sports, music, and education.
Multiculturalism Vs
Monoculturalism.
Could One Nation quote an example
of a nation which has only monoculturalism?
Quote: Strictly speaking, 100%
monocultural nation does not exists today, as all societies have inherent
diversity. However, countries like North Korea and Japan are the
closest modern examples that heavily lean into monoculturalism through ethnic
homogeneity and strict social, political, and linguistic conformity.
- North Korea: Often cited as the
closest global example of a pure monoculture, where approximately 99.8% of
the population is ethnically Korean. The state strictly regulates
language, religion, music, and clothing to enforce a uniform national
identity.
- Japan: Historically, known for its
elevated level of ethnic homogeneity. While urbanization and immigration
are gradually increasing, the nation maintains a strong emphasis on a
unified cultural identity, traditional social norms, and the Japanese
language.
Burqa
Instead of requiring the removal
of the burqa, the country could introduce legislation requiring every woman who
wears one to carry a national identity card and present it when entering
offices, markets, or similar public places. This approach may be considered for
the fact that some countries permit public nudity, and in Australia, nudity is
allowed on certain beaches.
Having more than one wife:
By act of parliament the
government can legalise that every man can marry only one woman, and a second marriage
can be allowed only after divorce by a court of Law.
Government assistance could be directed
toward supporting one recognised family unit, with policies clearly addressing
households involving multiple spouses.
All politicians could avoid hate
speeches please.
